A new study from the
National Research Council (NRC)
has found that reforms are needed to improve
children's reading skills. The report calls for an
end to the debate over which teaching reading
methodology should be employed. The NRC favors using
a synthesis of the best of all teaching techniques
and focusing on other important factors that impact
on a child's ability to learn to read. Among the
reforms suggested is a call for more teacher
training and support.
