·      A new study from the National Research Council (NRC) has found that reforms are needed to improve children's reading skills. The report calls for an end to the debate over which teaching reading methodology should be employed. The NRC favors using a synthesis of the best of all teaching techniques and focusing on other important factors that impact on a child's ability to learn to read. Among the reforms suggested is a call for more teacher training and support.

·      Modern Language Association (MLA) - The Modern Language Association of America is a not-for-profit membership organization that promotes the study and teaching of language and literature. MLA members have worked together for over a century to encourage high standards for teaching and scholarship in the field.
