Literacy
Boaz City Schools is leading the way to creating lifelong literacy success for all of our students. As a district, we believe in reading instruction that is rooted in the Science of Reading and supports the five pillars of reading: phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. We provide resources, activities, and materials that teachers need to reach and engage every learner at every level. We push to provide explicit instruction that builds students' abilities through a logical progression of skills. The district believes in a spiraling of skills to introduce new skills while reinforcing those previously learned and providing scaffolds for students in specific literacy domains of focus. It is the goal of Boaz City Schools that each student graduate Boaz High School as a critical reader and thinker who can write well in all areas of need.
Boaz. City Schools does recognize that reading is a multifaceted skill, gradually acquired over years of instruction and practice.
